Ground Hog Day and the word is......

Hello everyone. Looks like Wiarton Willy saw his shadow here in Canada. To celebrate 6 more weeks of winter we are having a bit of light snow, that looks more like fog in the distance. Know that kind???
Today I changed my Jolly Holly Day picture and now you can see Sheila who is the happy owner. Tears of joy were shed that night when it dawned on her that this little quilt she had been watching each step of the way was really hers. She was overwhelmed and I was jumping around like a little Dancing Mexican Bean. It was so much fun to see the light of understanding come into her eyes, only seconds before the tears. It surely brought back memories of my own surprise when I received in the mail from my Between Friends Cyber group my own Angel Quilt. Wow, it is so much fun to Pay It Forward. I knew how excited I was when my quilt arrived, but I never knew the feeling and joy of sharing with someone else. It was amazing and sure made me happy for the hours spent preparing and giving Sheila her Jolly Holly Day...which btw I think will be on her guest bed all year long.

I have posted (for now to be removed later) the new picture puzzle. Enjoy the fun of seeing quilt and owner together.

Finished Quilt 12.31.09 Jolly Holly Days

Dec 30 09
The two year project is as finished as I can make it today. The binding is in place...and ready for the finishing stitches which Mum and I will work together at during our visit in a few weeks time.

I hope the next picture you see in this blog will be with my friend loves snowpeople. This little project (which took almost 2 years in and out) will be a gift of love for the many times SHE has been there for us over the past many years since I met her in 1980's. She began as a friend when I went to her for cosmetic reasons. I didn't know at the time she lived across the road from my sister's family. Through our mutual chats during appointments it became obvious we were talking about the same people, namely, my sister, bro-in-law and niece/nephew. Finally, as "they" say we connected the dots....and there was my friend of all these years now my family's neighbour. Goes to show you what a small, small, world we live in...... I am adding this pic here now because shortly after displaying with her picture I will be removing the jig saw puzzle of this finished challenge I gave myself.

It has been so much fun learning a new quilt as you go technique...and adding borders in the same manner....now I can just enjoy the fun of sharing.

Storms and Peace

Oh my gosh....today in one of my online groups I was reintroduced to a saying that I had "label" printed onto my monitor at work, at home, and in my car (the bright red Intrepid I owned at the time). I would now like to put it here in my blog so I don't ever lose it again......I hope that any of you might adopt it also and remember that life comes in cycles.....it is the stormy ones that make us strong, and help us sail forth.

So please enjoy with me this thought.............
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain...

Happy New Year to all my family and dear friends who come here to visit with me from time to time. Life is a bowl of cherries....let's not always be finding the pits!!!!

The True Story of Rudolph

This email came to me today and I have to admit, it brought such a feeling of sharing to me that I've included it here in my Posts for anyone to read when she comes to visit me....(or maybe there is a he out there who comes to visit also). I hope that you all get the same peaceful feeling that I did when I read it for the first time.
**************************************************************

This is a neat story. I didn't know this is how Rudolph came to be.

**True Story of Rudolph**

A man named Bob May, depressed and brokenhearted, stared out his drafty apartment window into the chilling December night. His 4-year-old daughter Barbara sat on his lap quietly sobbing.

Bobs wife, Evelyn, was dying of cancer.

Little Barbara couldn't understand why her mommy could never come home. Barbara looked up into her dad's eyes and asked, "Why isn't Mommy just like everybody else's Mommy?" Bob's jaw tightened and his eyes welled with tears.

Her question brought waves of grief, but also of anger. It had been the story of Bob's life. Life always had to be different for Bob.

Small when he was a kid, Bob was often bullied by other boys. He was too little at the time to compete in sports. He was often called names he'd rather not remember. From childhood, Bob was different and never seemed to fit in. Bob did complete college, married his loving wife and was grateful to get his job as a copywriter at Montgomery Ward during the Great Depression. Then he was blessed with his little girl. But it was all short-lived. Evelyn's bout with cancer stripped them of all their savings and now Bob and his daughter were forced to live in a two-room apartment in he Chicago slums. Evelyn died just days before Christmas in 1938.

Bob struggled to give hope to his child, for whom he couldn't even afford to buy a Christmas gift. But if he couldn't buy a gift, he was determined a make one - a storybook! Bob had created a character in his own mind and told the animal's story to little Barbara to give her comfort and hope. Again and again Bob told the story, embellishing it more with each telling.

Who was the character? What was the story all about? The story Bob May created was his own autobiography in fable form. The character he created was a misfit outcast like he was. The name of the character? A little reindeer named Rudolph, with a big shiny nose.

Bob finished the book just in time to give it to his little girl on Christmas Day. But the story doesn't end there.
The general manager of Montgomery Ward caught wind of the little storybook and offered Bob May a nominal fee to purchase the rights to print the book. Wards went on to print,_ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer_ and distribute it to children visiting Santa Claus in their stores. By 1946 Wards had printed and distributed more than six million copies of Rudolph. That same year, a major publisher wanted to purchase the rights from Wards to print an updated version of the book.

In an unprecedented gesture of kindness, the CEO of Wards returned all rights back to Bob May. The book became a best seller. Many toy and marketing deals followed and Bob May, now remarried with a growing family, became wealthy from the story he created to comfort his grieving daughter. But the story doesn't end there either.

Bob's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, made a song adaptation to Rudolph. Though the song was turned down by such popular vocalists as Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore , it was recorded by the singing cowboy, Gene Autry. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was released in 1949 and became a phenomenal success, selling more records than any other Christmas song, with the exception of "White Christmas."

The gift of love that Bob May created for his daughter so long ago kept on returning back to bless him again and again. And Bob May
learned the lesson, just like his dear friend Rudolph, that being different isn't so bad. In fact, being different can be a blessing.

Ending 2009 and Beginning 2010

The news for this area was the near miss plane explosion on Christmas Day. A airbus landing in Detroit was the scene of a terrorist act that was prevented just in time. A terrorist lit and began an act of cruelty over the air above Oil Springs/Watford here in our Sarnia area....Thanks to a modern day hero this act was prevented just in the neck of time. So many lives were spared and I believe in my heart there were angels on that flight protecting the passengers and crew, not to mention innocent people here in an area that I live. As this year ends and 2010 beings my strongest prayers go Heavenward to bring true peace on earth. Brother embracing brother, sisters embracing sisters. In this world of so much technology why can't mankind bring love and kindness to everyone sharing this earth. With pollution issues don't we have enough to worry about for our coming generations. I'm so sad that we also have to worry about who in this world will bring harm or even death to fellow humans.
On a lighter note.....this year for me is going to be super, mind-opening, health, happiness and a greater personal growth. I hope this time next year I'll be able to have added many finished quilting projects to my slide show....and thereby know in my own heart and mind that I have accomplished my biggest project...that is finishing all that I have started over the past 10 years....wish me great luck in all these UFOs please.
Happy New Year to all my good friends here in CYBERWORLD

Sewing border and border front

Working on last side border Jolly Holly Days quilt

Oh my Christmas is fast approaching and I'm so happy to say the last sashing between the quilt and last border is pinned ready to be sewn in place. It is very slow when I can only do a bit each day, but I'm learning a great lesson called PATIENCE. I have the last border ready to sew in place once I get this sashing step completed. Then I'll be making the binding (long strips joined together, ironed in half and then sewn to the very edge of the quilt) getting it ready for sewing to the quilt. After that step comes the little label......Thankfully I have now until mid/end of January to finish before gifting to a friend who has been like a daughter to my Mum all these months past, and still to come.

Sewing on the border to quilt top

Oh my Christmas is fast approaching and I'm so happy to say that the last shashing between the quilt and last border is almost sewn on. It is very slow when I can only do a bit a day, but I'm learning a great lesson called PATIENCE. I have the last border ready to sew on, once I get this sashing step completed. Then I'll be making the binding (long long strip by joining several smallers ones together) and getting it ready for the last steps of the quilt.
